An exciting cycling tour through history, nature and culture in the Marche region. Starting from Civitanova Marche, we will travel along the Abbeys Path, with stops at local wineries for wine tastings. We will discover medieval villages, visit the amazing Frasassi Caves and do the panoramic bike ride along the Vallesina to the Adriatic coast to discover Ancona. An unforgettable journey to discover the most beautiful abbeys of the Marche.

 

DAY 1: Civitanova Marche – Corridonia

 

Level: Medium/easy

Km: 40

Difference in altitude: 350 mt.

 

We will leave in the morning from Civitanova Marche with a visit to the open-air museum "Vedo a Colori". Pedaling along the Chienti river, we will reach the suggestive Ciclovia delle Abbazie, with stops and visits to the Abbey of Santa Maria a Piè di Chienti and the Abbey of Santa Croce. Here it will be possible to have lunch at a local winery and taste the local products. In the afternoon we will continue by bike to the Abbey of San Claudio, immersed in a landscape rich in history and nature.

Dinner included at the hotel. Overnight.

 

DAY 2:  San Claudio - Corridonia - Petriolo - Abbadia di Fiastra - Castello della Rancia - Tolentino - San Severino

Km: 60

Difference in altitude: 800 mt.

 

The second day will start from the Abbey of San Claudio al Chienti, one of the oldest Romanesque testimonies in the region. We will cycle to the village of Corridonia to visit Piazza Filippo Corridoni, an example of fascist architecture, and the Parish Art Gallery, which houses valuable works such as the Madonna with Child and Saints by Giovanni Andrea De Magistris. We will continue towards Petriolo, with its charming historic center and a splendid view of the Sibillini Mountains. Crossing a picturesque country road, we will arrive in Petriolo with a stop at La Murola, one of the most fascinating wineries in the Marche, where it will be possible to taste excellent local wines. Passing by the Fiastra Abbey with a visit to the abbey, we continue towards Tolentino passing by the Castello della Rancia and we will cycle to San Severino. A visit to Piazza del Popolo is not to be missed, one of the most beautiful and fascinating in the Marche, with its elegant porticoes and the historic buildings that surround it.

DAY 3: San Severino / Sella di Pitino - Valle del Vento  /Treia / Cingoli

From San Severino Marche, we'll begin our ride along the picturesque Valle del Vento, immersed in the evocative Marche landscape, heading towards Treia, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Along the way, we'll pass rolling hills and breathtaking views until we reach the heart of the village, where we can admire the ancient walls, the Theatre, and the imposing Piazza della Repubblica. Here, we'll immerse ourselves in a timeless atmosphere amidst medieval castles, frescoed churches, and majestic centuries-old trees. A challenging climb will lead us to Cingoli, "the balcony of the Marche."

DAY 4: Cingoli/ Lago di Castriccioni / Apiro / Abbazia di Sant’Urbano / Abbazia di San Vittore / Genga

Km: 50

Difference in altitude: 650 mt.

 

Our journey to discover the abbeys becomes increasingly fascinating: after visiting the splendid Cingoli, we'll continue by bike towards Lake Castreccioni. From here, a charming panoramic road will lead us to Apiro, with its magnificent square. Free time for lunch and then off to discover the mystical Abbey of Sant'Urbano. The wonder doesn't end there: another abbey awaits us, nestled in the Furlo Gorge—the Abbey of San Vittore.

Overnight stay in Genga.

 

DAY 5: Genga / Arcevia / Castelplanio /ciclovia della Vallesina/ Ancona

Difference in altitude: 700 mt.

 

Our tour continues with a visit to the famous Frasassi Caves, a natural masterpiece not to be missed. After this extraordinary experience, we'll hop back in the saddle to tackle a series of challenging climbs and descents, offering thrills and unique views. The route then becomes gentler along the relaxing Vallesina bike path, which will lead us pleasantly to the Adriatic coast, offering picturesque views of the hills and the sea.

DAY 6: Ancona/ciclopedonale del Conero/Sirolo/ Porto Recanati / Potenza Picena / Civitanova Marche

 

Level: medium/difficult

Km: 60

Difference in altitude: 850 mt.

 

The day begins with a pleasant ride through Ancona's historic center, where you'll enjoy spectacular views of the harbor. Following a bike path, we'll reach the seaside, where we'll explore the picturesque village of Portonovo.

After a short climb, our route takes us to the Rosso Conero hills, passing through the characteristic villages of Sirolo and Numana. Continuing along the scenic road, we'll reach Potenza Picena, then pedal through vineyards back to the seaside and on to Civitanova Marche, where this unforgettable day of exploration will conclude.
